This was a fantastic project to work on and it’s always so much more fun to design and create new spaces when you have wonderful clients to work for.
This house was my client’s parents old house, so he knew the house well but felt it needed to be modernized quite a bit. This new bright kitchen facing Lake Huron was before a very dark wood panelled dining room with a sunroom in the back. The original kitchen was located on the other side of the house facing the driveway / entrance.
Nowadays formal dining rooms are barely used, and if they are used it’s usually for holidays, large dining parties or events. Therefore we decided to do a major flip of spaces and move the kitchen to the north side of the house so that our client could face the beautiful beach and lake huron while cooking and enjoying dinner. The sunroom was removed, and instead we were able to enlarge the kitchen and allow space to a round glass dining table for casual daily meals.
The existing window behind the sink was enlarged and brought down to the countertop to allow for even more natural light. Since we had a lot of base cabinet storage we didn’t need a lot of uppers and was able to keep the kitchen very light and airy.
