When we were approached by our client to design their new kitchen, it was clear that they wanted a stylish, functional but yet affordable kitchen renovation. In order to achieve this we had to save on some parts and then splurge on areas we thought was important.

Immediately we decided to utilize IKEA kitchen cabinetry for the renovation since competing with custom cabinetry prices wasn’t really an option for their budget. Instead to splurged on a Caearstonce quartz countertop, beautiful tiles and custom walnut pieces to accent the kitchen with some warm tones.

We decided to use both IKEA’s BODBYN door in white and their black flat KUNGSBACKA door for accent pieces to create a transitional kitchen with flare. The black doors are installed 30″ above countertop and houses a built-in hood and additional storage. The higher upper cabinets allows for more light into the kitchen and better headroom while cooking along side that wall.

Since this is an East Toronto home, the space is quite narrow. In order to give our clients an island we had to design shallow cabinetry along side the north wall. We decided to use uppers and lowers and give them a countertop in between to act as a buffet / sideboard.  We also framed these narrow cabinets with walls to give a custom / built-in look.

The custom walnut accent pieces in this kitchen, the custom powder coated black island legs, and the combination of millwork finishes, really adds a custom feel to the entire space.
